The skies were blue setting off from Barcelona and after a hearty breakfast there was much excitement as the team mingled and and got prepared outside the front of their hotel. Looking eye-catching in this year’s tour kit, there was last-minute checking to ensure their map was loaded into their Garmin computers ready for the off.

After lunch the route became quite twisting and turning, and the riders continued their journey along the coastal path towards the ancient fishing village of Tossa Del Mar, which provided another photo opportunity.

After a brief ‘photo-call’, the ride out of the city centre was fairly straightforward. Not long out of Barcelona and the climbing began - not only the roads, but the temperature too! It was no doubt with some relief therefore that the lunch stop for this leg of the stage was on the beach just outside of Malgrat De Mar. A chance for everyone to re-fuel and cool down

Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch of cold meats, salads and carb-loading pasta!. A physio was on hand to give a bit of massage to help relieve any aches and pains.

Shahzad (below middle) enjoyed a bit of paddling in the sea too. (Thank you Shahzad from those of us watching at home for doing such a great job of posting photos up to the live Instagram feed throughout the day)

Into the afternoon and temperatures began to climb further - reaching over 30 degrees. Thundery clouds threatened to cool the day, but it seemed the only rain to fall was water that came out of a water bottle. Midge (below left) and Paul (below middle) cool off in the shade of a tree.

Thankfully it wasn’t a long a day today and the Team weren’t late arriving at their hotel in Girona, so those with a sense of adventure had time to venture out to take a look at some of the sights that the town had to offer.
