Day 9    8th Sept

Bobbio /Reggiolo

After having had some punishing days in the saddle, it came as a welcome relief to have a slightly less challenging ride. After a short climb to the col, we dropped down to Bobbio (and checked out Mona Lisa’s bridge) and then we continue east past Parma and over towards Mantua.

This was a very pretty ride indeed - the Val Trebbia has allegedly been described as ‘the most beautiful in the world’ by Hemmingway and it lived up to its reputation!

We got some great shots of the Bridge at Bobbio (below), which is said to feature in the landscape behind the Mona Lisa

Although this was a relatively long day’s riding (at 173km) it wasn’t to late when the team started arriving at their hotel stop for the night. This meant there was time to do some washing, use the pool and Rob Woolfson even ‘enjoyed’ a thorough massage!

The team enjoyed some stunning evening skies followed by a lovely dinner, where they were able to sample cheeses and hams famous the world over, made locally to their journey today.

Many of the team stopped off in Parma, either for a photo opportunity or for a bite to eat (below left Andy Woolfson takes a quick blood test). The journey then continued onward to finish in Reggiolo, featured in stage 10 of the 2014 Giro D’Italia.

Thankfully, although there were a couple of ‘punchy’ climbs today, this journey was one where the team could revel in the magnificent scenery.
