I’m Mary, from China. I was diagnosed Diabetes type 1 when I was 18 years old.

In 2011, I was lucky enough to be chosen as a member of IDF Youth Leader Program. During my trip to Dubai, I met a number of incredibly inspirational people from all over the world. For the very first time since I had diabetes, I didn’t feel lonely and started to develop a sense of belonging by heart.

More importantly, I fostered a positive attitude towards tackling challenges people from developing countries like China are encountering. I am beyond confident that I can become a champion in China to create our own type 1 diabetes community in order to change and shape the future for youngsters who have diabetes in China. TeamBG inspires people with, and those at risk of diabetes to achieve their sports and exercise goals, to educate people with diabetes of the benefits of sports and exercise and to equip them with the tools to achieve their goals. And for this ride is also the opportunity to demonstrate innovative solutions to the challenges of managing diabetes. Phil Southerland, the founder of Team Type1, who was diagnosed Diabetes type 1 when he was only 7 months inspires me a lot. He is my idol to struggle with type 1 through cycling ride and spread the positive message via this too. I want to do my best to help the TeamBG ensure that no matter where in the world someone is born, they will not face discrimination and feel confident and comfortable in managing their diabetes.
