Exercise keeps me going

Rider in the mHealth Grand Tour 2014 - Barcelona to Vienna. 2300km ride, 33000m of climb.

I love exercise. I have run four marathons, two half Ironmans and have lost count of the other triathlons, halves and assault courses I’ve competed in. Exercise keeps me going.

Three years ago I started to drop out of races, experience huge bouts of depression, was constantly sleeping, drinking and visited the loo 7 times a night. I didn't realise it but I was type 1 diabetic but my exercise was burning off the excess sugars.

Due to my lifestyle I struggle to keep my blood sugars under control and the diabetes is still causing me problems during training and competing. Last week, I was stranded six miles from home without a mobile, my sugars were sky high and I had no control over my body.

Finding Team Blood Glucose has been a turning point me and has given me hope that I can be the energetic person that I used to be. I can't wait to join TeamBG to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes and the affect that it can have on peoples' lives but also to promote exercise - it has been my saviour!
